Thoughts on Internship and Work Experience at 2am Design by Emily
I am working as an intern at 2am designs to get to grips with the graphics side of marketing and advertising, as I am going to study graphics at sixth form in order to get an A level in it. I haven’t been involved with graphics before because it wasn’t available as a GCSE at my school so I was forced to take the closest thing to graphics that my school offered, which was art. Although I took art, a lot of my work was graphics based as I have been interested in graphics for a long time, from looking through graphics sketchbooks at A level standard and from doing my own research into it. I think the reason I am so interested in graphics is because it is improving and changing all the time, such as the graphics in current films, the graphics used continues to look more impressive in the more recent films.
I am also planning on studying business at sixth form, which I think would help me if I wanted to continue doing graphics after sixth form as it would be easier to get involved in businesses such as 2am designs. I think that also studying media and marketing could be very useful for working with companies like 2am designs, which is something I may also look into doing at university.
Although I did art at GCSE and not graphics, I feel that art will improve my graphics because it has helped me with coming up with ideas quickly and easily on my own and has enabled me to become more confident with using different medias and resources. I enjoyed using Photoshop and other computer programs in art, but at my school the resources were very limited so I am hoping to make the most of the resources available at sixth form. I have also been interested in art throughout school but when choosing between art, photography and graphics for A level, I felt that graphics seemed the most interesting and think that I could excel in graphic design the most.
I feel that working at 2am designs will give me a good insight into working with graphics because I have never had the opportunity to use graphics or work in an environment where graphics is widely used before. I think that this will really help me when choosing whether or not to continue with graphics at university as I now know what kind of job I may be involved in after university and what the job consists of. Taking graphics at university is a strong possibility for me and hopefully from doing it at A level and doing my work experience at a design company it will make my mind up over whether to take it or not.
