The personal touch

Me and my partner have recently been looking at a flat to rent (for the first time) meaning we can finally break away from living at parents. It's all very exciting!

Since I was in high school all I have wanted to do is get my own place and make it my own! but I have realised this most likely wont happen for a while. For a start with rented accommodation there's a limit to how much decoration you can/want to do as it's not your own. I could deal with that, put some photographs up, posters, I could still put my temporary touch on the place but I am quickly discovering that I may even be lucky to get that!

For example we viewed a property last week that we loved! £525 all in (bargain) in a lovely area and a great layout of the place unfortunately the home owners stuff was staying, and I mean all of it!! 2 huge double beds meaning there was no way we could fit an office for my partner business, The dining table, the sofa, the TV stand, the wall art, the cutlery even! They simply had no use for it and nowhere for it to go. Obviously, this is what some people are looking for but not me, this would be a house not my home!

There's also a fine line between making you home looked lived in and keeping it bland enough for a new tenant to imagine themselves living there. We saw another place that was just filled with football memorabilia, major put off that didn't sell it to me what-so-ever!

So the hunt will continue, The search to find our home, but until then I will stay up in my bedroom which I decorated, with my furniture!
